The Code in Arts

Beauty is built into everything in life. A perfect, loving and intelligent creator would logically write his beautiful signature in his creatures. His artistic touch should be clearly visible in everything we observe.

The examples are too numerous to count. We need only to look at the beauty of the sky, mountains, oceans, rivers, plants, animals and humans to appreciate the fine art built into creating them. Many people are familiar with golden ratio 1.618 that is also called the Beauty ratio. It is found in almost everything in nature. It is found in the solar system, plants, human face, electrons orbits and also the DNA.

It would be also logical for the divine code to manifest the artistic touch of God in a certain way.

Despite its complexity, the spiral DNA structure is elegant and a fantastic manifestation of an artistic element built into a scientifically designed basic element of life.

Artists unconsciously painted the spiral structure since the dawn of history before knowing the DNA. The double helix pattern is painted especially on temples, around picture frames and icons. As if it is a clear reference to the basic unit of life that the contents of the frame are made from.

A particularly interesting piece of art is the huge floor mosaic found in Roman ruins depicting the Socrates, Plato and other prominent thinkers painted within an elliptical frame ornamented by a double helix pattern. Those historical figures were known for their philosophies and deep thoughts about the origin of life and the universe.

The code in art is manifested in most religious calligraphy and sculptures. It takes a brief look at the ornaments of religious text and temples to see the beautiful double helix on the borders surrounding most pieces. Also look at the elegant striped walls and columns of Alhambra, Granada and Damascus that look like chromosome bands.

The beautiful floral patterns in works of art signify happiness in this life and the hereafter but they also look like spirals or DNA double Helix. Even the scary figures (Gargoyles), sculptured on some temples, signify the fate of wrong doers in Hell. Such figures could be interpreted as symbols of a defective DNA causing malformations and disfiguration.

Somehow, it is as if our cells are mysteriously trying to tell us something and this appears appropriately in the beautiful works of art.

“..and has given you shape – and made your shapes beautiful -, and has provided for you Sustenance…” {Ghafir 40:64}

 “And he perfected everything he created”, {Q 7:32}

“ In (animals) there is also beauty for you when you rest or when you move”, {Q Bees:6}

“Thus, everything in the universe has been created beautiful, with purpose and in proportion and measure, both qualitatively and quantitatively”. {(al-Qamar 54:49}
